Social responsibility

At Bireta, we believe that all businesses, whether small or medium-sized, have a true impact on the world around them. We are aware of the consequences of our actions, and we try to make sure that the activities of our firm have a positive effect on the local and global environment.

At the core of our CSR policy is the membership of the United Nations Global Compact, the UN’s largest initiative supporting CSR and sustainable development in the world. Therefore, we undertake to combine our strategic business activities with 10 fundamental rules concerning human rights, employee rights, environmental protection and counteracting corruption, which are:

Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and

Principle 2: make sure they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;

Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;

Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and

Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Principle 7: Businesses should support for a precautionary approach to environmental challenges:

Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and

Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

We encourage an environmentally friendly approach. We have made the company’s procedures, including handling of projects or holiday leave procedures, more efficient to limit the need to print out documents. We take care to save energy, using energy-efficient devices, and switching off lighting and heating when the office is empty.

We create jobs, and employ people of all ages without discriminating any candidates. We support women, and many of our employees are mothers who combine their working life and family life. We organize internships for young people, allowing them to gain practical experience and making it easier for them to enter the job market.
